In this blog, there is an outline of what you can expect from Knights of the Braille in 2024.
We experienced a slow period in 2023 due to personal commitments.
In 2024, we plan to shift focus away from retroactively making tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) publications accessible and instead we plan on creating our own Knights of the Braille TTRPG. Additionally, we want to encourage community members to become Game Masters themselves.
TTRPG Accessibility
Making accessible TTRPG content was a primary focus in our community for a long time, and it’s time to close that chapter. The time it took for us to make publisher content retroactively accessible was agonizingly long at times, and was work we did free. To be honest, we’re glad that chapter is coming to an end.
We intend to continue advocacy for TTRPG content to be made accessible and we will continue providing contacts for accessibility consulting. New technologies are also moving toward greater content accessibility in the future. All of these factors are encouraging us to take that burden off our shoulders and use our energy elsewhere.
A special thank you to Richard, one of the Knights of the Braille moderators, for his tireless efforts to make more TTRPG content accessible. Richard worked hard and at times even burnt himself out in the pursuit of equality for our community. Thank you, Richard, for all of your hard work.
Game Masters
We frequently have folks joining the community with the intention of playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). However, there is a shortage of Game Masters, not just within our community, but in the TTRPG community at large.
We have some ideas around running Game Master workshops, interviewing visually impaired Game Masters for our podcast and even sharing advice in our blog.
If you are a Game Master interested in interviewing about your experiences or writing a blog post to share your advice, please email us at knightsofthebraille@gmail.com
Knights of the Braille TTRPG
We’re going to make a Knights of the Braille TTRPG…because there aren’t quite enough TTRPG’s to choose from already.
I frequently tell folks that D&D isn’t always the best choice for beginners, it can be intimidating. However, there are a thousand other options out there and it’s a little overwhelming. In the interest of having a free option, that we can provide and ensure is fully accessible, it makes sense to create a Knights of the Braille TTRPG.
The design will be simple and fun. A rule set for people new and experienced with TTRPG’s. Initial design will occur through our blog, to encourage feedback and engagement through the community. We hope to have an initial draft up on our website for playtesting before the end of 2024.
